Whataburger will offer its most popular breakfast sandwich for free on the morning of June 22, 2010.
Tomorrow, for three hours, the Texas-based hamburger chain will give each customer one Breakfast on a Bun sandwich at no charge. Diners can customize the sandwich, which starts with egg and a slice of American cheese, by adding either bacon or pork sausage. They also have the option of having their meal served “Ranchero Style” — topped with sliced jalapenos and fresh picante sauce.
The restaurant will host “Free Breakfast on a Bun Day” as part of its yearlong string of customer-appreciation events and food giveaways dubbed “Whataburger Serves.” In a press release announcing the June 22 giveaway, the company describes “Whataburger Serves” as a commitment to the communities it serves that combines sponsorships and charitable gifts with free food offers. Most recently, in March, locations offered free milk with the purchase of either variety of the chain’s Gourmet Cookies.
Though CBS News’ report of the event appears to caution against purchasing Breakfast on a Bun because of its high saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium content (as compared to the FDA’s Daily Value recommendations, which are based on a 2,000 calorie diet), other news outlets along the Southwestern United States appear to share customers’ enthusiasm for the giveaway.
Free Breakfast on a Bun takes place from 7AM to 10AM on June 22 at all 700-plus Whataburger restaurants (though the company’s website lists the offer as taking place “at participating locations only.”)
